A metal shade spun on a lathe from a single disc of steel, on a thin stem and a weighted base. It is a reading and working lamp: the light goes down onto the surface, and the inside of the shade is painted white to bounce some of it back.
The outside is powder-coated. Powder coat is tough but it is not indestructible; a knock against a hard edge will chip it, and a chip cannot be touched up invisibly.
